Students Join Frontline Research on Mine Water Management

Capacity building is not only about infrastructure, but it is also about people. In 2025, MWAZACO actively engaged master’s students from Copperbelt University (CBU) in practical project activities, ensuring that technical knowledge is transferred to the next generation of professionals.

Rather than passive observation, students participated directly in core project tasks.

Practical Involvement in Field and Analytical Work

Under professional supervision, participating students contributed to:

  • Field sampling and in-situ hydrochemical measurements
  • Laboratory analysis and interpretation
  • Data processing and mapping
  • Supporting technical solution development

Their involvement represents a measurable technical contribution to the project’s outputs.

Integrating Education with Applied Research

Student participation is closely linked to their MSc thesis work, allowing academic research to directly support real environmental assessment tasks.

Administrative and financial arrangements comply with Copperbelt University’s internal regulations, ensuring transparent, auditable cooperation mechanisms consistent with donor requirements.

Investing in Long-Term Expertise

By integrating students into real-world environmental work, MWAZACO strengthens local professional capacity in hydrogeology and environmental risk assessment.

This approach contributes to long-term sustainability by ensuring that Zambia’s future environmental experts gain practical skills grounded in current field realities.

The MWAZACO project is supported by the Czech Development Agency within the Czech Development Cooperation programme. Stay connected and follow our progress as we strengthen sustainable water management in Zambia.
